WHY STUDY PIANO ONLINE?

The Advantages to Online Lessons:

Convenience
Have the lesson right at home (keep your slippers on). Never worry about loading kids in the car, traffic or remembering to bring every music book.  Use the time spent driving to stay home and practice instead.

Consistency

Never miss a lesson due to inclement weather or sickness (unless too ill to leave bed, of course) Learning happens faster when the student regularly meets with the teacher.

Record your lessons for future playback with Zoom's recording feature when using a laptop.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Meet Your Teacher, Chris Dickerson

Hello!  My name is Chris Dickerson. I have been teaching private piano since 2007 to children and adults of all ages. I hold a music degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania where I studied piano with Dr. Vincent Craig.

In addition to private piano instructor, I have served as a hotel pianist since 2012 playing for Sunday brunches, weddings, and various engagements.

I am a third-grade school teacher and also direct and accompany a middle school choir for the district.

I believe it is never too late to start piano lessons. If you are motivated to learn and will make consistent time to practice, you can learn to play this amazing instrument sooner than you think!

I would love the opportunity to help you or your child begin a lifetime of musical fulfillment!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?

I teach students of all ages!   Children as young as five can start.  Your child should be able to sit for a 30 minute lesson although parent involvement during the lesson is encouraged for younger students.

You can learn the piano at any age whether you've had experience or not.  I am a school teacher but also really enjoy teaching adults. I understand learning a new hobby in the midst of a demanding home/career life can be challenging. I will patiently work alongside you and help optimize your practice time.

WHAT STYLES DO YOU TEACH?

I use traditional methods to provide students a well-rounded foundation in piano technique, theory and repertoire while also having opportunities to learn music of their choice.

Please note, if you are looking to study jazz or more improvisational styles of playing, I would not be best suited to fit those needs and would suggest a teacher specialized in that genre.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO PRACTICE?

When first beginning, I recommend a  minimum of 20-30 minutes for adults and 15-20 minutes for younger students at least five days a week.  You will need to devote increased time as you become more advanced, but with consistent practice, you will gain proficiency in a matter of months.

HOW LONG ARE LESSONS AND HOW OFTEN?

I recommend weekly 30-minute lessons for younger students, while adults may benefit taking an hour but it is not essential.  You will find that the lesson time flies by when you're enjoying it!
